One cabling system, and everything runs on it

Structured cabling is the part of your building nobody sees and everything depends on. Phones, WiFi access points, tills, printers, door readers and CCTV cameras all end up on the same network — and when that network is a decade of ad-hoc runs stapled along a skirting board, every fault becomes a hunt.

We install a single, standards-based system instead: outlets where you actually need them, cables routed in containment, and every run terminated at a patch panel in one cabinet. Add a desk, move a camera or swap a switch and it is a patch lead, not a rewire.

For most Gibraltar offices, shops and warehouses that means Cat6 or Cat6a copper to the desk and to each access point, with fibre where you need to link floors, buildings or a separate comms room. We will tell you honestly which you need — Cat6a and fibre are worth paying for in the right places and wasted money in the wrong ones.

Installed neatly, tested properly, labelled for whoever comes next

The difference between a good cabling job and a bad one shows up two years later, when something breaks. We dress cables into containment and cable management, terminate to patch panels rather than trailing leads, and label both ends of every run against a numbering scheme that matches the patch panel and the floor plan.

Every outlet is then tested with a calibrated tester and you get the results — a certificate per port showing it meets the standard for the category installed, not just an engineer saying it seemed fine. You also get an as-built record of what is where, so the next person to open that cabinet is not starting from scratch.

We work around occupied premises, including out of hours where a shop floor or office cannot lose a day. New fit-outs, refurbishments, extra points in an existing building or an entire re-cable of something that has grown out of control — all handled by the same local team.

The same cabling carries your security system

Modern cameras, door controllers and intercoms are network devices that take both data and power down one cable, so the quality of your cabling decides how reliable your security is. A camera dropping out at night is very often a cabling fault, not a camera fault.

Because we design and fit both, we cable for what the security system needs from the outset — PoE budget accounted for at the switch, runs kept within distance limits, spare capacity at the cabinet, and outlets placed where a camera or reader will actually go. If we are installing your CCTV or access control too, it is one team, one plan and one point of contact when something needs attention.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Structured Cabling in Gibraltar — your questions answered.

What exactly is structured cabling?

It is a single, planned cabling system for a building rather than separate runs added ad hoc over the years. Every outlet runs back to a central comms cabinet and terminates at a patch panel, so moves, additions and fault-finding are quick and you can see at a glance what connects to what.

Should I be installing Cat6, Cat6a or fibre?

Cat6 is right for most desks and general office use. Cat6a is worth it for longer runs, higher-density WiFi access points and anywhere you want headroom for 10 Gigabit. Fibre is for backbones — linking floors, buildings or a separate comms room. We survey the site first and recommend the mix that fits, rather than specifying the most expensive option everywhere.

Can you cable our office while we are still working in it?

Yes. Most of our work is in occupied premises. We agree the areas and timings in advance, work out of hours or in phases where a shop floor or office cannot lose a day, and leave the site clean at the end of each visit.

Do I get test certificates for the installation?

Yes. Every outlet is tested with a calibrated tester and you receive the results, along with a labelling schedule and an as-built record of the installation. Insurers, auditors and your own IT support will all thank you for having it.

Can you add points to cabling someone else installed?

Usually, yes. We will look at what is already there, tell you honestly whether it is worth extending or whether the existing runs are past helping, and price both options so the decision is yours.
